What is Weight Loss Clinic?

At Vie Aesthetics, we know how important it is to reach and maintain a healthy weight, both for mental wellbeing and for physical health. We also know how challenging it can be to shed those excess pounds, especially without the right support. That’s why we have become a certified partner of the National Medical Weight Loss Programme (NMWLP) for our Weight Loss Clinic, helping you achieve your weight loss targets effectively and safely, using the latest advances in medicine and weight loss medication.

Which medications are used?

Our Weight Loss Clinic will enter you into a course of two possible medications. You will take these alongside a calorie-controlled diet of your choice. Both medications are available by prescription only and your doctor will advise you on the one most suitable for you.

Working in conjunction with your diet, the medications will help you hit your goals by achieving the following:

  • Controlling your appetite
  • Curbing hunger
  • Suppressing cravings
  • Reducing portion sizes
  • Releasing stored fat
  • Losing weight
  • Developing positive habits

How do they work?

These medications are synthetic forms of the body’s natural hormone glucagon-like peptide (GLP-1), which regulates appetite and food intake. GLP-1 is normally released from the body after eating a meal, and it makes you feel full, hence your appetite is reduced. It also delays the time it takes for the stomach to empty, preventing you from further eating.

Your body’s natural form of GLP-1 normally lasts only a few minutes after eating, whereas the synthetic form lasts much longer in the system before being broken down. This means that its effects are increased, and you will feel less hungry overall and fuller for longer.

By reducing your appetite, these medications will help you keep to the calorie-controlled diet of your choice in order to more easily achieve your weight loss goals.

Who can take it?

You will likely be suitable for our Weight Loss Clinic if:

  • You are an adult aged 18-75, with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or above (in the obese category).
  • You are an adult aged 18-75, with a a BMI of 27 or above and have weight-related health issue(s) present including high blood pressure, high cholesterol or respiratory conditions such as sleep apnoea.

Please see the BMI Chart below for reference.

However, you will not be suitable for the Weight Loss Clinic if any of the following apply:

  • You are pregnant or trying to get pregnant
  • You have a personal history of multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN Syndrome)
  • You have a known hypersensitivity to the medication or any of the components
  • You are under the age of 18 or over the age of 75
  • You have been diagnosed with diabetes (type 1 or type 2)
  • You have been diagnosed with a body image or eating disorder

Are there any side-effects?

As with any medication, there are potential side effects to these drugs. The most common side-effects are nausea, indigestion, abdominal pain, and changes to bowel habit. However, these tend to settle over the first few days.

Warning signs for any rare but serious side-effects will be explained to you by our doctors, and our team can always be contacted if you have any concerns or enquiries.

What other support do you provide?

As you may know, achieving and maintaining weight loss is not just about the food – it is about forming healthy and sustainable long-term behaviours. That is why for our Weight Loss Clinic we have partnered with qualified life coach Anna Kesanli. She will provide two complimentary life coaching sessions around your specific issues with food, and help you to create specific and structured goals around your health habits.

Healthy lifestyle habits do not stop once the weight is shed. For this reason, we also provide our medical weight loss clients with lifelong membership into our private Facebook community. This ensures that support from peers and experts is always at hand whenever you may need it.
