What is the Silhouette Soft® Thread Lift?

Restore your face’s natural shape with our non-surgical Silhouette Soft® Thread Lift – one of our most popular procedures in facial rejuvenation.

Suitable for both men and women, Silhouette Soft® Thread Lift is a safe and effective contouring treatment for redefining your facial structure without the cost and rigours of surgery. It involves inserting a highly discreet thread (or sutures) under your skin, which is tightened to give you a natural, long-lasting lifting effect. Lost volume is restored, and fine lines and wrinkles are instantly reduced. Importantly, the procedure also allows you to maintain your facial movements and expressions – with results that look 100% natural.

Silhouette Soft® Thread Lift can be used to redefine various parts of your face, including the jawline, cheeks and mid-face area, your eyebrows, and neck. It can also be used to tighten the skin in specific areas of the body, such as the abdomen, arms and legs. How does Silhouette Soft® work?

There are two main functions that makes Silhouette Soft® Thread Lift such a popular choice among clients. The first concerns the actual application process itself; by skilfully inserting the thread at specific points under your skin, the doctor can give your face an immediate lifting and tightening effect, compensating for previous loss of volume. Furthermore, the procedure also allows the doctor to subtly reshape your problem areas by compressing and elevating the skin’s tissue using the thread.

Silhouette Soft®’s other key function is that it produces a gradual and natural regenerating effect that continues long after treatment. Comprising of polylactic acid, the thread is slowly and naturally absorbed into the skin after application. This process triggers your body’s collagen cells to produce even further collagen and help restore lost volume to the face, thus slowing – and even reversing – the ageing process for many months to come.

How long does the Silhouette Soft® Thread Lift take to work?

Silhouette Soft® Thread Lift procedures usually last around 30 minutes and the retightening effect is instantly visible. These effects are long-lasting, too – up to 18 months, as Silhouette Soft stimulates its own production of collagen. The components of Silhouette Soft are also natural and entirely absorbable by your own body.

Note that our doctor will provide you with post-treatment recommendations and an aftercare programme to follow to ensure the best possible result. Sometimes there may be very minor bruising or swelling after treatment, so it may take several days for the “true” final outcome to be enjoyed.

Is the Silhouette Soft® Thread Lift also suitable for the body?

Yes, the Silhouette Soft® Thread Lift can also be a fantastic solution for dealing with saggy skin in specific areas of the body, such as the abdomen. What is the downtime with the Silhouette Soft® Thread Lift?

Procedures involve minimal downtime, and in most cases, you can resume most normal activities soon after. However, you will likely experience minor inflammation at the suture insertion points. This is normal and required. Other possible side-effects can include minor pain, swelling and bruising. All of these should pass quickly.

Generally speaking, the recovery period for Silhouette Soft can vary depending on a variety of factors, and usually takes a few days, but can last up to two weeks. Your doctor will discuss expectations and aftercare with you during your no-obligation consultation.

Does the Silhouette Soft® Thread Lift hurt?

All procedures are performed under local anaesthetic, and are therefore pain-free. However, due to the sutures being inserted into the subcutaneous tissue, you may experience a low level of discomfort. Once the suture has been applied, our doctor massages the area to obtain the desired lifting effect. The non-inserted ends of the suture are cut off.

How many Silhouette Soft® treatments are needed?

Only one treatment is required. However, results are not permanent (up to 18 months), so you may wish to consider a repeat session once the initial procedure has run its course.

Any cons with Silhouette Soft®?

Silhouette Soft is a fantastic and less-invasive alternative to a surgical facelift. However, the procedure is not suitable for patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, patients with active sepsis or infection, patients with an active (or history of) autoimmune disease, and patients who are unwilling or unable to follow post-treatment recommendations.

No special preparation is required prior to Silhouette Soft treatment. Our doctor will discuss your individual concerns, goals, and expectations with you during your free consultation. As standard protocol, you should let us know of any medications you are currently taking, and of any previous treatments.

The manufacturer of Silhouette Soft recommends the following post-treatment care:

Apply cold packs immediately after the procedure if required (Cold packs should be wrapped to avoid direct contact with skin and insertion point)
Take analgesia e.g. paracetamol in case of pain (2-3 days)
Refrain from applying make-up for as long as possible (minimum 24 hours)
Sleep face up, in an elevated position on pillows (3-5 nights)
Wash, shave and dry face gently without rubbing or massaging (5 days)
Avoid excessive face and neck movements (2 weeks)
Avoid over-exposure to direct sunlight and do not use tanning beds (2 weeks)
Avoid sports, in particular high impact sports e.g. running (2 weeks)
Do not use saunas or hammams (3 weeks)
Avoid dental surgery (3 weeks)
Avoid face and neck massages and face and neck aesthetic treatments (4 weeks)

What is the Silhouette Soft® Thread-Lift used for?

The Silhouette Soft® Thread-Lift is an anti-ageing treatment that tightens and rejuvenates sagging skin, and restores your facial contours. It is typically used to correct concerns in the mid-face (such as nasolabial folds and droopy cheeks), jawline, eyebrow and neck area. In addition, Silhouette Soft® Thread-Lift it can be an effective treatment for tightening sagging skin in some areas of the body.

How long do Silhouette Soft® Thread Lift results last?

Results from the Silhouette Soft® Thread Lift can last for up to 18 months, sometimes longer. However, everyone is different. The Silhouette Soft also stimulates its own production of collagen, helping to make your skin firmer and more elastic over time.

Is Silhouette Soft® painful?

Silhouette Soft® Thread-Lifts is a non-surgical, minimally invasive procedure that uses a local anaesthetic to ensure it is pain-free. However, patients may still experience some minor discomfort during the placement of the threads. There may also be some minor bruising or swelling afterwards, which clears after a few days.

Are Silhouette Soft® Thread-Lifts surgical?

No, the Silhouette Soft® Thread-Lift do not involve surgery. It is a minimally invasive procedure in which absorbable threads are placed under the skin to create a natural and beautiful “lifting” effect. It restores your face’s contours and tightens sagging skin, with a long-lasting, rejuvenating effect. Unlike surgery, there are no incisions, and as such, very little downtime and recovery. Results are also temporary, albeit long-lasting.

Is Silhouette Soft® safe?

Silhouette Soft threads are made from PLLA and PLGA (Poly L Lactic Acid & Poly Lactic-co-Glycolic Acid), both of which have been used safely in medicine for decades.

Does the Silhouette Soft® Thread-Lift have any side-effects?

Silhouette Soft® Thread-Lifts can cause a minimal inflammatory reaction, due to the insertion of a foreign body into the skin. This is a well-known reaction and common to all minimally invasive aesthetic treatments. In some cases, patients can experience minor pain, swelling and/or bruising. Your doctor will discuss any risk of side-effects with you during your no-obligation consultation prior to treatment.

I started having treatments with Dr Liakas approximately 2 years ago now. I’d had Botox and fillers with other consultants but when I met Dr Liakas there has been no turning back.
