What is Hyperhidrosis?

At Vie Aesthetics, we understand that excessive sweating affects a large number of men and women. Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition characterised by excessive sweating beyond what is necessary to regulate body temperature. This condition can affect various parts of the body, including the palms, soles, underarms, and face. People with hyperhidrosis can sweat excessively even when they are not hot, stressed, or exercising. This can lead to discomfort, embarrassment, and interference with daily activities. If you are struggling with hyperhidrosis, our specialised treatment at Vie Aesthetics can provide the relief you need.

How does the treatment work?

Our treatment uses botulinum toxin injections to target areas affected by excessive sweating. Botulinum toxin is a purified protein that works by blocking the chemical signals between nerves and sweat glands. Here’s a deeper look into the science behind it:

When your body temperature rises, your nervous system activates your sweat glands to cool your body. However, in individuals with hyperhidrosis, the nerves responsible for activating sweat glands are overactive. Botulinum toxin injections work by inhibiting the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that stimulates the sweat glands. By blocking this chemical signal, the injections effectively prevent the sweat glands from producing excessive sweat.

This simple yet highly effective procedure can significantly reduce sweating in the treated areas. You can expect to see results within two to 14 days, and these results can last for up to eight months. For sustained effects, we recommend repeat treatments every six to eight months. Interestingly, with each subsequent treatment, the results can last even longer.

How many treatments are needed?

For optimal results, we suggest having repeat treatments every six to eight months. Each individual responds differently, and over time, the duration of the results can extend, allowing for longer intervals between sessions. Our team at Vie Aesthetics will work with you to create a personalised treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.

What areas can be treated?

At Vie Aesthetics, we can treat various areas prone to excessive sweating with our botulinum toxin injections. Common treatment areas include:

  • Palms
  • Chest
  • Armpits
  • Soles of the feet

By targeting these areas, we help you regain confidence and comfort in your daily life.

Before your treatment at Vie Aesthetics, it is important to prepare your skin properly. We advise you to avoid shaving the treatment area for at least 24 hours prior to your appointment. Additionally, refrain from using any deodorants, lotions, or other skin products on the day of your treatment. If you are taking any medications or have any medical conditions, you can inform our team on your medical history form filled out before your appointment.

Following your treatment, it is crucial to follow our aftercare instructions to achieve the best results and minimise any potential side effects. We recommend avoiding strenuous exercise, hot baths, or saunas for 24 hours post-treatment. Try to keep the treated area clean and dry and avoid applying any products that could irritate the skin. If you experience any discomfort or have any concerns, our team is always available to provide support and guidance. Specific aftercare advice will be advised to the client by our doctor.

Are Hyperhidrosis/ Excessive Sweating treatments painful?

The injections are typically well-tolerated, with most clients experiencing only mild discomfort. A numbing cream can be applied to the treatment area to enhance comfort.

Who is a good candidate for hyperhidrosis treatment?

Good candidates are individuals who experience excessive sweating that interferes with daily activities and have not found relief from antiperspirants or other treatments.

Is there any downtime after the treatment?

There is minimal to no downtime. Most clients can resume their normal activities immediately after the procedure.

Can I combine hyperhidrosis treatment with other aesthetic treatments?

Yes, many clients choose to combine hyperhidrosis treatment with other aesthetic procedures. We recommend discussing your goals with our medical team to create a comprehensive treatment plan.

Are there any long-term risks associated with the treatment?

Long-term risks are rare. Botulinum toxin has been used safely for many years for various medical and cosmetic treatments. Our qualified professionals ensure the highest standards of safety.

How long does the treatment session take?

The treatment session typically takes about 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the size and number of areas being treated.

Can I wear deodorant after the treatment?

We recommend avoiding deodorants for at least 24 hours after treatment to prevent irritation.

Will the treatment affect my ability to sweat normally elsewhere?

No, the treatment only affects the specific areas injected. You will continue to sweat normally in untreated areas.

Do I need a consultation first?

No, you can book directly for the treatment, and the doctor will conduct a ‘mini consultation’ before proceeding. However, you can always book a separate consultation to discuss any treatments and concerns beforehand.

What if I have other medical conditions?

It is important to disclose all medical conditions and medications during your consultation. Our medical team will assess your suitability for the treatment and ensure it is safe for you.

Please note that results vary from person to person due to lifestyle, external and internal factors, and genetic predispositions.
