What are Russian Lips?

Achieve the pout of your dreams with one of the most exciting beauty trends in aesthetics: Russian Lips. The Russian Lips technique is named after the lips you often see on Russian stacking dolls – or “matryoshka” and “babushka”, to give their correct name. Using special filler and artistry, our doctor accentuates your “cupid’s bow” by adding volume and lift to the centre of your lips. This creates an attractive heart-like shape, which remains relatively flat to the face.

While this “tweakment” is inspired by dolls, the effect looks very natural and stunning. Russian Lips procedures are also safe and non-surgical, leaving you with a beautiful outcome and only minimal downtime.

During your no-obligation consultation, our doctor will discuss with you your goals, and help you decide whether Russian Lips is a suitable tweakment for you.

How does the Russian Lips technique work?

The Russian Lips is a simple, minimally invasive procedure that uses injectable filler to achieve its unique effect. Filler treatments are one of the most popular treatments at Vie Aesthetics. They are often used to restore lost volume to areas of the face or body, and is sometimes known as a “liquid facelift”. However, filler can also be used to reshape parts of the face, such as the chin, nose and lips.

With Russian Lips, the doctor administers filler in a very specific way. The product is injected vertically into the lips, and then spread outwards to widen and lift the lip shape. Much of the filler is injected into the central area to create the necessary emphasis. Fillers comprise of hyaluronic acid, which is a natural substance that is created from skin and connective tissue. This is naturally broken down by your skin over time. Results are temporary and the products completely safe.

Note that Russian Lips tweakments typically require more filler than a standard Lips Augmentation with Filler procedure. However, the main goal with Russian Lips is to heighten the lips rather than add excessive plumpness. For this reason, it’s often regarded as a good option if you’re new to lips treatments and want to create a striking look without being overly radical.

How long do Russian Lips treatments take to work?

Results from Russian Lips tweakments are instantly visible.

How many sessions are needed to achieve Russian Lips?

One session of filler will be enough to achieve the Russian Lips effect in the first instance. However, extra volume can be added if required and sessions are tailored towards your own goals. Note that we always strive for a 100% natural outcome. Our doctor will advise you if they feel you are asking for too much product, and your result will be unnatural. With all lips tweakments, including Russian Lips, our advice is that you should always err on the side of caution, and less is often more.

Results from Russian Lips filler treatments are long-lasting but temporary. Over time, the filler is absorbed by the body and the effect gradually diminishes. Therefore, repeat treatments are needed to maintain the Russian Lips effect.

What is the downtime with Russian Lips treatments?

Downtime for Russian Lips tweakments are relatively minimal. However, Russian Lips tweakments require more filler than a standard Lips Filler procedure. Therefore, you should anticipate longer lasting swelling or more prominent bruising. Fortunately, such after-effects should begin to disappear after a few days, enabling you to get on with your usual activities without inhibitions. As with all treatments, our doctor will always discuss downtime with you beforehand and advise on the best possible aftercare.

Do Russian Lips treatments hurt?

Fortunately, Russian Lips treatments are relatively painless. There is only slight and fleeting discomfort from the injections. All our fillers contain a local anaesthetic to ensure there is no pain when the filler is injected into the lip.

Note that all procedures involving injectable fillers are medical treatments. They should ONLY ever be performed by a qualified and trained doctor.

We also offer interest free finance on treatments above £280 and on selected packages.

  • Using Vaseline for the first week is a good idea to stop your lips from cracking or drying out.
  • Avoid sunbeds, lip waxing, saunas for the first week after treatment.
  • Staying hydrated, drinking plenty of water will help maximise the benefits of your treatment
  • If you have any bruising following your treatment, apply arnica cream (you can buy this in your local pharmacy.
  • In the first 24 hours avoid alcohol and spicy food.

Taking care of yourself after the procedure is crucial. By following the above you will enjoy your results for longer.

Why are Russian Lips treatments slightly more expensive than a standard Lips Augmentation with Filler procedure?

Extra filler is typically required to create the Russian Lips effect. Procedures can therefore also take longer – usually between 30 and 45 minutes.

What is the difference between Russian Lips and standard Lip Fillers?

The type of injectable used in Russian Lips and standard Lips Augmentation procedures is the same. However, the technique is different. With Russian Lips, the main goal is to heighten the lips rather than add extra plumpness. To achieve this, the doctor administers filler vertically into the lips. The product is then spread outwards to widen and lift the lip shape. Much of the filler is also injected into the central area to emphasise this area. During traditional lip filler procedures, the doctor focuses more on injecting horizontally into the body of the lip. Note that Russian Lips treatments typically use more filler to achieve the desired outcome.

Are results from Russian Lips treatments permanent?

No, results from Russian Lips treatments are not permanent. Procedures use special hyaluronic acid filler to reshape the lips and achieve your desired outcome. Over time, the filler is naturally absorbed by your body and the effect is gradually lost. You may then decide to have a follow-up treatment to maintain results. Note that one of the many benefits of non-surgical lips filler procedures is that you are never permanently stuck with the outcome if you decide it is not for you.

Are Russian Lips treatments surgical?

No, the Russian Lips treatments we offer are non-surgical procedures that use hyaluronic acid filler to temporarily reshape the lips as desired. However, it is a medical treatment. Procedures involving injectable fillers should ONLY ever be performed by a qualified and trained doctor!

How long do results from Russian Lips treatments last?

Results from all our Lips Filler procedures usually last between three to nine months sometimes even longer. This usually depends on a patient’s physiology. Note that your doctor will discuss the expected longevity of results with you during your initial, no-obligation consultation.

Are Lips Filler treatments painful?

Treatments with lips fillers such as Russian Lips are relatively pain-free. All our fillers contain a local anaesthetic to help maximise patient comfort.

Please note that results vary from person to person due to lifestyle, external and internal factors, and genetic predispositions.
