What is it?

If you’re looking to achieve a smoother, trimmer appearance, and are worried about cellulite, stretch marks and stubborn fat, then our advanced Shockwave Therapy procedures can help.

This effective, non-invasive procedure uses high-energy shockwaves to remodel your skin from within, leaving you with a tighter and more toned outcome. There is no surgery, no downtime and sessions are pain-free. It is especially effective for treating cellulite and stretch mark scarring, but can also be used as a body contouring procedure to trim away unwanted fat. In some cases, it may be combined with other fat reduction treatments for an optimal outcome.

During your initial, comprehensive consultation, our qualified practitioner will discuss your concerns with you, and help you create a plan tailored towards achieving your goals.

How does it work?

Shockwave Therapy works on several levels to reduce fat and strengthen and remodel skin.

During procedures, a special device is used to emit high-intensity pulses of shockwave energy into targeted areas of the skin and body. While completely safe and pain-free, these powerful waves of acoustic energy perform a number of functions beneath the skin. These include:

  • Stimulate collagen formation and strengthen connective tissue. This reparative process makes skin firmer and can also break down scar tissue.
  • Reduce fat by breaking down the connective fibrous walls that harbour stubborn fat and toxins below the skin.
  • Increase blood flow to the area, ensuring oxygen and nutrients are delivered to the targeted area. This is especially effective for eliminating cellulite.
  • Improve lymphatic drainage, which flushes broken down fat and toxins from the body.

How long does the treatment take to work?

Many patients see visible improvements just two weeks after treatment. However, Shockwave Therapy should be undertaken as part of a longer course with results continuing to improve after each session.

How many treatments are needed?

How many treatments you need will vary depend on your own goals and needs. Most patients can expect to have around eight to 10 treatments to achieve their desired outcome. Shockwave Therapy can also be used to enhance the results of other fat reduction and body contouring treatments.

Note that during your initial, no-obligation consultation, our practitioner will discuss your situation with you, and will help you to create a plan tailored for your own needs. Your progress will also be closely monitored during free reviews and your subsequent sessions.

What is the downtime?

There is no downtime with Shockwave Therapy. It is a non-invasive procedure. You should be able to return to all normal activities straight after treatment.

Does it hurt?

No, Shockwave Therapy does not hurt. Some patients liken it to having a massage.

What can I expect after shockwave therapy?

You can have brief discomfort, tightness, or swelling after the surgery for a few days because the shockwaves cause an inflammatory reaction. But in this case, the body is spontaneously repairing itself.

How effective is shockwave therapy?

When an injury has progressed to a chronic non-healing stage, shockwave therapy is an excellent, non-invasive treatment for injured soft tissues, particularly tendon and plantar fascia. Shockwave therapy has been clinically shown to enhance metabolic processes and is a safe alternative to surgery or injections of steroids and other medications.

What should you not do after shockwave therapy?

For the first 48 hours following treatment, you should refrain from performing high impact exercises like running or playing tennis. If you’re in pain, you can take paracetamol if you can, but you should avoid taking a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory pain reliever like ibuprofen because it will negate the treatment’s effects and make it ineffective.

How many shockwave treatments do I need?

Treatment with shockwaves has a cumulative effect on the damaged tissue. According to the research, patients should receive treatment for at least three weeks in a row. More than three sessions may be necessary, but this is determined on a case-by-case basis based on how you respond to treatment.

Please note that results vary from person to person due to lifestyle, external and internal factors, and genetic predispositions.
