What is telomere testing?

Telomere testing provides information about your health through telomeric length analysis. The swab test provides a snapshot of the size of your telomeres, which are the repetitive DNA sequences at the end of our Chromosomes that protect them from damage.

Benefits of telomere testing:

  • Increased energy
  • Better sleep
  • Improved cardiovascular health
  • Lower risk for diabetes

Telomere length that is shorter than the norm for a particular age group may be linked to osteoporosis, diabetes, coronary heart disease, and other age-related health issues that manifest early. Certain lifestyle choices, such as smoking, being overweight, not exercising, and eating poorly, might speed up telomere shortening and cause sickness and/or early mortality. When dietary, physical, mental, and sleep changes are done consistently, telomere length loss may be slowed down.

How does telomere testing work?

Using a sample collected by a cheek swab, the telomeric length is measured using the quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) molecular method. By comparing the average telomeric length of a patient to the length of other recognised genomic areas, our experts may assess the patient’s condition.

How accurate is telomere testing?

Numerous patients have employed this approach, which has great repeatability and reproducibility values. The findings of telomere testing vary from person to person, and they may be repeated once a year to assess your score.

What is a good telomere length?

When we are conceived, our telomeres are typically 15,000 bases long; by the time we are born, they are 10,000 bases long. Over the course of our lifetimes, this will keep occurring. In order to maintain development, fight off illnesses, and heal wounds, our cells continue to divide. However, the percentile of the normal range is the statistic used to evaluate a person’s telomere length. Telomere length in a person with short telomere syndrome is equivalent to 1% of the healthy population for the same age range.

How can I lengthen my telomeres?

Numerous studies have demonstrated how altering your lifestyle, eating a good diet, exercising and taking the right supplements may prolong telomeres and enhance important aspects of immune cell ageing. Longer telomeres are linked to fewer diseases. The team at Vie Aesthetics is prepared to assess the length of your telomeres and suggest the best programme for you.

We also offer interest free finance on treatments above £280 and on selected packages.
